We all find our jobs stressful at times, whether we are software engineers, marketing specialists or lawyers. And often, practicing something completely distanced from your daily chores is what helps to relax and fully recharge.
Our CTO Pencho did an ambitious step in this direction, getting passionate about mountain hiking 4 years ago and spending every minute of his free time on the hiking trails. Over the past 1 year he also dived into the world of professional rock climbing (wow!)
His latest achievement is climbing peak Matterhorn with its impressive height of 4478 meters. Situated in the Alps, on the border between Switzerland and Italy, Matterhorn summit is one of the highest in the Alps and Europe. Over 500 alpinists have died on their way to Matterhorn since the first climb in 1865, making it one of the deadliest peaks in the world!
Despite the typical winter scenery en route to the peak, along with constant cold wind and mist, our CTO did not give up (well, we cannot miss but parallel with just how he handles tech challenges 😉
Reaching the summit was carefully planned and split in 2 days:
Day 1: Starting from the Italian mountain ridge of Matterhorn, through the town of Cervinia, continuing with 2 hours walking to Abruzzi shelter and then arriving at Carrel hut at 3835 meters height.
Day 2: Early waking up and having breakfast at 1:30am in the morning and at 2:20am directly heading towards the summit. After 4 hours the destination was successfully reached.
And even though it sounds like a quick job at first, it took months of preparation, on all bases, to be physically and mentally fit to conquer a peak you have once only dreamt to step on.
We are proud that people in our team have the guts, perseverance and dedication to chase and achieve their personal goals, in addition to excelling at work. A key principle of IndigoVerge team is achieving a healthy personal life-corporate life balance and we are happy when the team appreciates and follows this principle.
Now, who’s next to conquer a peak of his own? 🙂
